Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

1What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder

In this month’s in depth review of Anxiety we wanted to explore the different types of anxiety, and one that is becoming more and more prevalent is Generalized Anxiety Disorder (or GAD for short).

GAD affects 6.8 million adults in any given year and according to the statistics, women are twice as more likely to be diagnosed with this type of anxiety.  GAD is particularly difficult to treat because it is a slow onset disorder which can begin from childhood and continue to grow through adolescent, young adulthood to middle age.  The beginning stages can often get confused with the feeling of worry and easily be dismissed.
